Hotlapping is an activity you can do in freeroam mode with the help of the Hotlapping UI app. You can set up a circuit course anywhere you want, and then try to get the fastest lap time possible with the vehicle of your choice.
Here is what the app looks like, with Advanced options enabled to see all of the features:
Click on the Advanced… button for more options; click on it again to hide the options.
The Skip Lap button will simply skip the current lap. The lap time will be invalidated, and the next lap will start when you pass the starting line again.
The Toggle Detail button will toggle between simple and detailed times in the app display.
You can increase or decrease the size of all of the checkpoint markers.
You can enable AI vehicles to race along the route that you created. See the next section to learn more about this feature.
You can toggle the visibility of the checkpoint markers; this is great for immersion and AI races!
After setting up your circuit race, you can race against AI controlled vehicles! Just spawn some suitable opponent vehicles via the Vehicles
menu, place them somewhere behind the starting line, switch back to your original vehicle, and then select Start AI
in the app. This will activate AI for the other vehicles. Doing this will also save their starting positions, so if you select Stop AI
and then Start AI
again, it will automatically teleport them back to the start.
When you start the AI, they will begin racing immediately. Pause the game first if you want a fair start!
You can set each AI racer’s Risk
level. The Hotlapping app will automatically apply a Risk value of 0.95 when the race is started for the first time. To manually control this value after the start of the race, ensure that the AI Control
app is enabled, and then switch to the other vehicles by pressing TAB. Use higher values for faster AI (but with the risk of overshooting corners), or lower values for more careful AI.
