Basic Usage

Core workflows for creating AI driving paths and behaviors.

Getting Started

Opening the Tool

  1. In the World Editor, click Drive Path Editor in the mode bar
  2. The tool window opens with Add New Drive Path Spline as the first top-row button

Create a New Drive Path Spline

  1. Click Add New Drive Path Spline
  2. The cursor sphere changes from red to purple
  3. Left-click on the map to place nodes; continue clicking to draw the path

Basic Editing

Moving Nodes

  • Mouse: Click and drag nodes on the map
  • Gizmo: Press ALT to toggle the translation gizmo

Adjusting Path Width

  1. Select a node
  2. Drag the rib handles (left/right at the node) to adjust width

Node Editing

  • Select: Click a node
  • Drag: Click and drag to reposition
  • Add at ends: Hover free space near either end and click
  • Insert: Hover the spline (highlight + hint appears) and click
  • Delete: Select a node and press DEL

Spline Operations

  • Loop: Drag start/end node near the other end; hold SHIFT and release
  • Laps: When looped, set Num Laps in Properties (NavGraph: last waypoint must match start node for multiple laps)
  • Join: Drag one spline’s end onto another’s end; hold SHIFT and release
  • Split: Select a node, click Split under the spline list
  • Simplify: Click Simplify to reduce nodes while preserving shape
  • Flip: Click Flip to reverse node order and velocity profile

Speed and Velocity

Speed Profile and Route Speed Mode are configured in Properties. See Overview → Speed control for mode details.

Edit bar handles

  1. Set Speed Profile to Speed (v) or Limit (vl) in Properties (bar handles hidden when Off)
  2. Select a node and drag bar handles (vertical controls) up/down
  3. Higher = faster (red); lower = slower (blue)
  4. Tip: lower values at curves, higher on straights; smooth transitions between zones

Configure behavior

In Properties, adjust as needed:

  • Route Speed Mode and Route Speed slider
  • Delay Time, Starting Node, Aggression
  • Drive in Lane (NavGraph only), Avoid Cars, Num Laps (when looped)
  • Start with defaults; test via playback; adjust gradually

Recording a Drive Path

  1. Position the vehicle at the desired start
  2. Click Record, drive the route, click Stop Recording
  3. The spline captures the exact trajectory and speed from your drive — playback replicates how you drove during the recording
  4. Edit the resulting spline like any other path (recording sets Speed Profile to Speed (v), Route Speed Mode to Off)

Drive smoothly along the intended route for best results.

Linking and Playback

  1. Select a path spline and a vehicle in their respective lists
  2. Click the link button on either row; status appears below both lists
  3. Multiple vehicles can share one path; click link again to unlink
  4. Click Play/Stop to test; iterate on path and Properties as needed

See Interface for all playback and recording controls.

Spline Management

  • Enable/Disable: Toggle per spline in the list (disabled = no node interaction)
  • Trajectory Type: Free Mode vs NavGraph Mode — see Overview → Key concepts

Tips

  • Start simple; use playback often to verify paths
  • Use recording for natural routes; adjust velocity gradually
  • Free Mode for custom paths; NavGraph for road networks
  • Test with different vehicles
