Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for the Drive Path Editor.

Vehicle-Path Link Issues

Vehicle not following the path

Problem: AI vehicle doesn’t drive along the assigned path spline.

Cause: Vehicle and path are not properly linked or vehicle is not drivable.

Solution:

  • Ensure vehicle and path are properly linked (check link status below both lists)
  • Verify the vehicle can drive: parking brake off, responsive controls, not damaged or stuck
  • Try a different vehicle; check the console for errors

Playback Problems

Playback not starting or advancing

Problem: Can’t execute AI driving or timer not advancing.

Cause: Link issues, vehicle problems, or speed configuration.

Solution:

  • Verify vehicle-path link and that the timer is progressing
  • Try a different vehicle; reset properties to defaults (reset buttons on sliders)
  • Check the console for errors

Navigation Graph Issues

Navigation graph not rendering or visible

Problem: Can’t see waypoints or navigation data.

Cause: Camera position or map doesn’t have a navigation graph.

Solution:

  • Move the camera — the graph may be elsewhere on the map
  • Verify the map has a navigation graph; otherwise use Free Mode
  • Check the console for loading errors

Speed and Behavior Issues

Speed settings don’t affect vehicle behavior as expected

Problem: Vehicle speed doesn’t match configured settings.

Cause: Speed modes may not match expectations. See Overview → Speed control — only Speed (v) and Route Speed Mode Set target explicit speeds.

Solution:

  • For explicit per-node speeds: Speed Profile Speed (v) with bar handles visible
  • For per-edge caps: Limit (vl) (Free Mode only) — AI chooses speed up to each limit
  • For explicit global speed: Route Speed Mode Set with Route Speed configured
  • Limit and Legal cap speed but don’t force exact targets; Legal depends on map roadSpeedLimit data
  • With both modes Off, the AI determines speed automatically — adjust Aggression, limits, or caps instead
  • Reset properties to defaults; if the problem persists, report a bug

Driving behavior unexpected or parameters seem wrong

Problem: General behavior doesn’t match settings.

Solution:

  • Reset all parameters using slider reset buttons; adjust gradually from defaults
  • Verify speed modes match intent (link above); confirm the vehicle supports desired behavior

Performance Issues

Tool becomes slow with complex paths

Problem: Tool becomes unresponsive when working with complex driving routes.

Cause: Too many path splines or very long routes.

Solution:

  • Reduce the number of path splines in the scene
  • Break long routes into shorter segments
  • Simplify complex path geometries
  • Reduce the number of linked vehicles

Spline Visibility Issues

Path spline disappears

Problem: Spline becomes invisible or can’t be found.

Cause: Spline may be underground, off-screen, or have color/lighting conflicts.

Solution:

  • Use Go to Spline to locate and focus on the spline
  • Check if the spline is underground or positioned off-screen
  • Adjust lighting or color settings if there are visibility conflicts

Session Management

Path splines disappear between sessions

Problem: Work is lost when restarting the tool.

Cause: Splines do not persist between sessions by default.

Solution:

  • Use Save Session to Disk / Load Session from Disk (see Interface ) to preserve work

When to Report Bugs

Report with reproduction steps if you encounter:

  • Speed settings not applying when modes are correctly configured
  • Path validation completely failing
  • Vehicle-path links breaking unexpectedly
  • Tool window freezing without performance cause
  • Undo/redo history not working
  • File corruption or unreadable session data

Reload the tool and check the console first.
